到國外用錢，雖然可以使用國內的提款卡或信用卡，但是這屬於跨國交易，因此要收手續費，而且要承擔匯兌的風險，提款卡跨國提款需注意提款卡後面是否有Cirrus和Maestro的標誌，每交易一次要收75元手續費，每日有20k的提款上限，匯率可能採用當天或隔日銀行公佈的匯率
而信用卡的手續費就隨各家銀行不同，由於VISA和Master組織會收1%的手續費，因此信用卡跨國交易至少要付1%手續費
這次到英國並不是到大學唸書，而且停留時間不長，因此要在英國當地銀行開戶有風險，而且手續辦理的時間可能要長達一周，當我發現倫敦有三家台灣銀行的分行(彰銀 一銀 台銀)，我決定先詢問看看，如何開戶。
根據我詢問彰銀行員，發現到倫敦錢的問題應該可以解決，原來我想要看看能否在台灣當地開倫敦分行的戶頭，但是行員跟我說，文件還是要郵寄到當地，而且是用DHL要跟我酌收1200手續費，因此我作罷，其實到當地開戶只要一個工作天就可以完成，我只要備好，身分證，護照就可以辦理，因此我最後決定，到倫敦以後直接開戶。
為了身上不帶太多現金，對於錢的問題採用以下策略：
1. 先到彰銀倫敦分行開戶，先把身上大筆的旅行支票存入，避免身上帶太多錢，假如一直無法在倫敦當地銀行開戶成功，那我至少每週可以專程到這邊來提領現金
2. 到倫敦當地銀行 HSBC NatWest試著開戶，假如可以開戶成功，那就方便了，我就可以在英國到處提錢
3. 信用卡和台灣的提款卡還是會帶，以防萬一

1. 活期存款帳戶 (Current Account)如何申請?
銀行會提供支票本及提款卡。是最常用的帳戶，方便的存提領你的錢。但此帳戶利息較低。

六個月課程以下的學生則無法在英國銀行開戶
本國hsbc開戶
這是最好的方式。在前往英國之前，最好事先詢問個人往來的台灣銀行要如何匯錢到英國等相關匯款細節。並查詢該銀行是否和英國任何銀行有直接業務往來關係，或你的國內提款卡是否能在英國使用(例如: Cirrus)。
礙於短期課程的學生無法在英國銀行開戶，因此我們會建議學生先在國內的 “匯豐銀行（H.S.B.C）”開立 “綜合儲蓄帳戶”，然後將提款卡帶到英國使用。因為H.S.B.C是屬於國際性銀行，在英國各處皆有其分行，所以十分方便提領現金，唯一的缺點是每提款一次，就必須支付新台幣75元的手續費。
什麼型態的銀行信用卡對最好用？
你只需要一張銀行信用卡。許多英國人都使用一種現金消費卡（Debit Card- Switch 或 Delta Card）。這是一種結合提款與信用卡刷卡兩功用的卡。日常生活中的各項支出皆可使用此卡，從生活上的雜貨食品到電影票或甚至是網路或電話訂購的商品都可由此卡支付，而不需要用到支票或現金。這卡不是信用卡，所有的費用支出是直接由你的銀行帳戶中扣除。換言之，你不必每月付帳單。
也可以當支票保證卡使用(Cheque-guarantee Card)，意指銀行會支付你所開的支票。通常金額會有限制。

如果你是進口商，日本是出口商，你需要付貨款給日本，採取電匯的方式，你一定會先選擇一家你較常往來的銀行或較信任的銀行，將貨款付給日本廠商，你的款項，也許是台幣，也許是日幣也或許是你和日本廠商是敲美金金額，不管是什麼幣別，你的款項交付給銀行後，銀行依照你的匯款申請書上所填寫的收款銀行及收款人全名、帳號，拍發電報，給日本的銀行，如果你往來的銀行---A與日本的銀行--B沒有通匯往來的關系，台灣的銀行會將電報拍發給另一家銀行--C，而這家C銀行必需是A與B都有通匯往來的銀行，這樣才能將這款項由A銀行轉給B銀行。而B銀行收到此電報後，將先查看銀行的帳上是否有此筆款項進來，如果沒問題才會將此款項撥付給你日本的廠商！
